The King County Executive Climate Office invites candidates for the position ofChief of Staff.

The Chief of Staff will collaborate with the ECOleadershipteam to support the next phase ofteam growthand development and continue operationalizing the new Executive Climate Office. This position will also lead coordination with the Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget including the ECO efforts to support the Executive’s Best Run Government priority. This position will also mentor, manage, and support staff and any matrixed team members focused on ECO-wide activities and operations including communications, grants, and government relations.

This position will report to the Director of the Executive Climate Office and will serve as a people manager.

King County has established the Executive Climate Office (ECO) to elevate and accelerate Executive Constantine and the County’s commitment, coordination, and ability to deliver on climate action internally and in partnership with cities and partners. Since being established in 2023, the Executive Climate Office has grown to over 20 staff, fellows, and interns, and has secured over $60M in state and federal grants.

Led by the ECO Director, the team providesleadershipthrough programs and project professionals responsible for executing Executive Constantine’s priority to aggressively confront climate change.

Support Director and the Executive Climate Office Team

Anticipates operations and policy issues of a significant nature affecting the ECO and develops effective strategies for resolving them.

Ensures effective operations of the ECO by planning, directing, and coordinating activities that provide intergovernmental coordination andadvocacy, communications, administration, and overseeing theadvancementof government relations.

Serve as a key member of the ECO’sleadershipteam and contribute to the vision, mission, and values of the ECO through responsible andeffective leadershipand work performance.

Identify and execute team-wideprofessional development opportunities.

Serve as Acting Director if asked to do so by the Director.

Support Next Phase of Operationalizing the Executive Climate Office

Work with the climate team to develop a 5-year operationalizing strategy for the ECO.

Work with ECO’sleadershipteam to develop additional internal policies and protocols.

Work withleadership, administrative, finance and budget teams to ensure accurate budget and expenditure tracking.

Represent ECO at inter-agency operational working groups and on inter-agency projects, if identified.

Support coordination of ECO’s regional partnerships, including K4C, PSCPC, and C3, as needed.

Lead coordination with the Office of Performance, Strategy, and Budget (PSB)

Support ECO’s sponsorship of the Best Run Government Awards.

Lead the tracking and coordination of Climate Annual Planning and Executive Priorities.

Lead ECO’s annual Best Run Government roadmap assessment.

Support the development of the  Climate Cost Share budget.
