The Company
The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) trade organization representing independently owned recorded music companies. A2IM serves as a central voice for adiverse communityof independent labels, focusing on governmentadvocacy,education, and creating community and business opportunities. The organization has over 500 record labels as core members and nearly 200 associate members in related music businesses.
A2IM also represents independent artists and has created the Foundation for Independent Music to support educational efforts and networking events.
Position Summary
A2IM is approaching its 20th anniversary and seeks its next CEO. The executive will set strategy and lead core services includingadvocacy, events,education, and community. The CEO will be an effective operational and people leader, accountable for P&L and staff management, creating a vision that ensures a viable ecosystem for independent recorded music labels.
Specific Responsibilities
Represent the collective voice of independent label membership while anticipating needs and gathering input from the member community.
Events,Education& Community
Ensure effective programming that meets the needs of label members and supports the independent label community.
Empower independents witheducation, networking, and resources.
Leverage the collective scale of independents to compete with major labels.
Provide resources that develop practitioners and leaders in the independent music ecosystem.
Expand A2IM Mentoring and develop other solutions.
Advocacy
Be a leading expert on trends impacting independents.
Propose solutions and build coalitions foradvocacy.
Lead discussions with lawmakers on copyright legislation.
Engage members inadvocacyefforts.
Participate in industry discussions withtrade associations.
Manage outside lobbyists and uphold compliance with anti-trust regulations.
Membership
Attract and retain members by providing valuable services.
Develop member services including educational andnetworking opportunities.
Create initiatives that ensure adiversemembership is welcomed and celebrated.
Industry Relations
Partner with other music organizations to defend the interests of A2IM’s members.
Work with associate members to strategize toward a beneficial ecosystem.
Represent independent recorded rights holders in discussions with DSPs and other entities.
Organizational Leadership
Inspire and empower adiverse, high-performing team.
Manage revenue streams and P&L.
Nurture A2IM’spositive cultureand invest in staff development.
Qualifications
15+ years of experience in aleadershiprole in the recorded music industry.
Demonstrated ability to lead a successful organization.
Visionary understanding of trends affecting the independent music industry.
Advanced understanding of the music ecosystem and copyright law.
Ability to anticipate impacts of policy and technology on independent music.
Strongcommunicationand facilitation skills.
P&L experience in a growing entity.
Commitment to independent labels and recorded music rights holders.
High work ethic, integrity, and growth mindset.
Compensation
Competitive salary, incentive, and benefits will be offered, with a base salary anticipated at $200K to $300K.
