Daybreak is looking for a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to assist in our mission of providing Miami Valley homeless and vulnerable youth with services that promote safety, stability, and well-being. This position will play a key role in achieving our vision of a promising future for all youth by being a strong leader in strategic planning and fund raising in reaching this goal.
About Us: Daybreak was established in 1975 in Dayton, Ohio as a not for profit emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Today, Daybreak operates the Miami Valley’s only 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency youth shelter and has grown to include outreach, prevention, transitional housing, life-skills education, mental health services and other follow-up services for homeless youth and young adults.
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package including Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance, a retirement plan, Employee Assistance Program, 10 paid holidays and generous Vacation and Sick policy. The annual salary range for this position is $90,000 – $105,000.
Position Responsibilities: The CDO will lead a comprehensive external relations (and fund raising) department that includes all private philanthropy, marketing and public relations and community engagement. Includes major and planned giving, annual giving, leadership annual giving, private grants and corporate relations, stewardship/events, social media, and advancement services. As a member of the Executive Management Team, the CDO will participate in the preparation of the agency’s strategic plan and help set strategic direction for the organization by developing short and long-range goals to meet institutional funding and public relations objectives and enlists support from individuals, foundations, corporations, staff, the governing body and volunteer organizations as appropriate.
Develops and implements operational plans to reach the resource development and public relation goals and objectives set forth in the agency’s strategic marketing plan. Supports the CEO in portfolio management of high-end prospects and other activities related to the public representation of Daybreak. Works with Board of Trustees to identify potential donors and other stakeholders in support of Daybreak’s mission.
Provides leadership and management oversight to the development staff (4 members) to meet fundraising goals and objectives. Assist in the creation and administration of the departmental budget.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (required) and five or more years related experience. CFRE strongly preferred. Must have at least three years of fiscal and supervisory experience. Knowledge of planned giving, capital campaigns, and high-end donor engagement.
A successful candidate can manage multiple projects concurrently. Have previous experience in strategic planning, budget development and contract execution. Will demonstrate a high level of problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions supported by substantial analysis and critical data-based decision-making. Must have the ability to provide direction, leadership, and coaching to the development staff. Exhibits exceptional public speaking skills and utilizes varied forms of communication skills/approaches based on audience and venue.
It is the policy of Daybreak to ensure that the facility is in compliance with all license requirements and that all employees are fit for duty. Once a conditional offer of employment has been given, Daybreak requires that all prospective employees sign a background check release form and pass pre-employment testing before a start date may be given.
