Responsibilities

Kforce has a client that is seeking a CFO in Washington, DC. Key Responsibilities: Finance Leadership:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning for a nonprofit organization with a July 1 fiscal year
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to senior leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Oversee monthly and year end financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timeliness
  • Support and manage the annual audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors
  • Oversee financial management of multiple funding streams, including foundation funding and government grants
  • Provide oversight of Medicaid billing and other complex revenue sources
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, controls, and reporting efficiency

Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small finance team (team size of 3), including:

  • Controller
  • Senior Accountant
  • Junior Accountant (AP/AR)
  • Foster professional development, accountability, and collaboration within the team
  • Provide hands on guidance while empowering team members to grow in responsibility

Compliance & Risk Management: Oversee corporate and financial compliance requirements, including:

  • Licenses, filings, and regulatory deadlines
  • Grant and contract compliance
  • Investor, funder, and stakeholder reporting as applicable
  • Coordinate with HR on employee related compliance matters
  • Ensure all required documentation, filings, and reporting obligations are completed accurately and on time

Operational Oversight

  • Provide leadership oversight across Operations, Facilities, HR, and outsourced IT functions
  • Partner cross functionally to support organizational effectiveness and scalability
  • Ensure systems, vendors, and internal processes support compliance and operational needs

Requirements

  • Nonprofit experience; Not an association though
  • Direct services nonprofit is ideal
  • Strong Finance background
  • Strategic/analysis and compliance
  • Managerial and supervising experience (team size of at least 3)
  • Excel skills but don't need Pivot Tables or VLOOKUPS

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
