SPECIAL PROJECTS STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Broadway In Chicago, a leading theatrical presentation company and venue operator, seeks a detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our team as a Special Projects Staff Accountant.

REPORTS TO: Executive Management Team

STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt

SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday. This position is expected to work from our downtown Chicago office and report in-person.

Position Summary

The Special Projects Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of Broadway In Chicago productions, venues, concessions operations, and affiliated special projects. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, performing reconciliations, assisting with financial reporting, and supporting accounting functions across multiple business entities and projects.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced entertainment environment. Success in this role requires strong accounting fundamentals, excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Perform monthly bank and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and supporting documentation.
  • Process weekly and periodic sales summaries for concessions, merchandise, and other operating activities.
  • Assist with concessions inventory accounting, inventory reconciliations, and related reporting.
  • Prepare financial schedules, reports, and analyses as requested.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Assist with sales tax, amusement tax, and other tax reporting and filing requirements.
  • Support audit preparation and requests from external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and physical financial records.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors regarding financial matters.
  • Assist with special projects and financial analyses as assigned.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with enterprise accounting software such as NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains), QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong data entry and recordkeeping abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including:
    • General ledger accounting
    • Journal entries
    • Accounts payable
    • Accounts receivable
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Balance sheet account reconciliations
    • Accruals and deferrals
    • Financial reporting and analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the entertainment, live events, performing arts, hospitality, or related industries.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) & QuickBooks.
  • Experience working with both for-profit and nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience supporting multiple business entities, projects, or cost centers.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and sales reporting.

Compensation

Salary Range: $65,000–$75,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
