Salary/Hourly Rate

$28/hr – $30/hr

Position Overview

The Bookkeeper will help drive the company’s mission forward by keeping day-to-day financial operations running smoothly. From managing payables and receivables to supporting audits and payroll, your work will ensure the financial health of a team working to build a better world.

Responsibilities Of The Bookkeeper

Oversee and reconcile vendor accounts, ensuring clear communication on outstanding and completed payments

Manage the full invoice lifecycle – from submission to approval – ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete

Uphold internal compliance by reviewing invoices against policies before processing payments

Monitor payment timelines and proactively update team members on invoice statuses

Coordinate with Human Resources to execute timely and accurate payroll and reimbursements through systems like Gusto

Help bridge finance and HR operations by integrating payroll and benefits data into monthly and quarterly reports

Partner with the Finance Director on developing forecasts, tracking budget performance, and preparing for internal and external audits

Required Experience/Skills for the Bookkeeper:

Prior experience in nonprofit finance or accounting.

Familiarity with NYS and NYC grant compliance is a strong plus.

Coursework or certifications in accounting functions and software highly valued.

Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with full A/P and A/R cycles.

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks independently.

Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field or equivalent work experience is required.
