STL is a community of health working to reduce the impact of trauma in the St. Louis region. This includes three core programs:
The T, for people at risk for overdose, the BRIC, for people who have experienced bullet injury; and community engagement, focusing on education and therapeutic efforts to reduce the impact of trauma. Through these programs, Power4
STL provides public health education, community engagement, self-care resources, harm reduction, support, and direct clinical care for acute and chronic trauma.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records to support the organization’s mission-driven work. This role ensures the integrity of financial data through meticulous recordkeeping, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and donor management. The Bookkeeper works closely with the Executive Director and Grants Manager to support budgeting, grant tracking, donor data and acknowledgements, and audit preparation. This position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, discretion, and a strong commitment to values of equity, healing, and community empowerment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and accounts.
Record all financial transactions including income, expenses, and bank deposits.
Reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements to ensure accuracy.
Generate regular financial reports (e.g., profit and loss statements, balance sheets).
Maintain daily reporting of bank account balances for cash flow management.
Maintain proper documentation for financial transactions.
Support internal and external audits as needed.
Record grants, charitable contributions, and in-kind donations.
Issue all donor acknowledgements.
Maintain and update donor database, track giving history, and generate reports.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
2+ years of bookkeeping and financial management experience.
Experience with non-profit accounting is a bonus.
Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Quick Books) and donor management software (e.g., Bloomerang).
Strong understanding of basic accounting principles (e.g., debits/credits, chart of accounts).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
Proficiency in Google Suite, using/updating a database, and ability to learn new computer programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. This position requires standing, sitting, typing, use of several computer programs, as well as the ability to maintain a trauma-informed environment.
