Board Treasurer (Volunteer Board Role)

The Right Kind of Black Girl (TRKBG)

The Right Kind of Black Girl is seeking a Board Treasurer—a senior-level financial leader prepared to guide both fiscal stewardship and resource development strategy at a pivotal stage of organizational growth.

This role is designed for a chief-level thinker—someone who understands that financial leadership is not only about oversight, but about positioning an organization for durability, scale, and long-term impact.

About Us

TRKBG is a mission-driven organization advancing Black women and girls through wealth-building, cultural programming, and community-centered experiences. We operate with a clear ethos: to create pathways to ownership, visibility, and sustained power—on our own terms. Our work is both strategic and cultural, requiring leadership that can hold rigor and vision in the same hand.

The Opportunity

The Board Treasurer serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership and the Board Chair, ensuring the organization’s financial infrastructure and development strategy are aligned to support growth. This role provides oversight of both the Finance Committee and Development Committee, recognizing that strong financial governance and effective fundraising must operate in lockstep.

Equally important, this role carries the responsibility of serving as a Board Ambassador—actively representing and advancing the organization’s mission, reputation, and relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-level financial oversight, including review of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts

• Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial standards, reporting, and governance best practices

• Lead and align the work of the Finance and Development Committees

• Partner with executive leadership on revenue strategy, including philanthropy, grants, and donor engagement

• Advise on financial positioning for organizational growth, partnerships, and expansion

• Support the development of sustainable, diversified funding strategies

Board Ambassador Expectations

• Actively represent TRKBG within professional, philanthropic, and community networks

• Leverage relationships to support fundraising, partnerships, and organizational visibility

• Engage as a strategic advisor, contributing insight beyond formal meetings

• Uphold and embody the mission, values, and cultural integrity of the organization

Ideal Candidate

  • Expertise in Financial Statements, Financial Planning, and general Finance
  • Experience with Budgeting and Accounting processes
  • Strong strategic and analytical orientation with the ability to guide organizational decision-making
  • Commitment to the mission of TRKBG and advancing the organization's goals
  • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit governance and/or development strategy
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote setting and communicate effectively with a diverse team
  • Experience in fundraising or developing financial strategies for nonprofits is beneficial
  • Established network and a willingness to actively engage in resource development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a relevant field is preferred

Commitment

• Monthly board meetings and active committee leadership

• Ongoing strategic engagement and ambassadorial participation

• Overall 8-10 volunteer hour per month

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to contribute at the governance level of an organization shaping culture, capital access, and community for Black women and our communities. The Treasurer will play a critical role in ensuring the organization is not only well-managed—but well-positioned for what comes next.
