Position Overview:
Women of Valor is seeking compassionate, committed individuals with nonprofit and/or domestic violence advocacy experience to join our Board of Directors. Board members play an active role in supporting survivors, guiding strategic decisions, and promoting safety, dignity, and equity in our community.
This is a hands-on leadership role for individuals who are ready to contribute their time, talents, and networks to advance our mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Mission Advocacy: Champion the rights and needs of domestic violence survivors and promote the organization’s vision for safe, empowered lives.
Hands-On Involvement: Participate actively in events, outreach, and program support (e.g., attending vigils, shelter activities, awareness campaigns, or community training).
Strategic Leadership: Provide input on long-term planning, organizational priorities, and growth strategies.
Nonprofit Governance: Ensure legal and ethical integrity, adherence to policies, and sound governance practices.
Fundraising & Outreach: Support development efforts through personal contributions, donor cultivation, grant connections, and public advocacy.
Program Guidance: Offer insights based on professional experience or lived knowledge related to domestic violence, trauma-informed care, public health, law, or social work.
Committee Service: Actively serve on at least one board committee or task force.
Community Representation: Represent the organization in the broader community and build partnerships with relevant stakeholders (e.g., law enforcement, healthcare, shelters, schools).
Qualifications:
Passion for ending domestic violence and supporting survivor-centered approaches.
Experience in nonprofit leadership, community advocacy, public policy, law, mental health, social services, or related fields.
Ability to engage meaningfully and respectfully in trauma-informed environments.
Willingness to be active and available—beyond board meetings—for the needs of the organization.
Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Expected Commitment:
Time: 8 –10 hours/month (including meetings, events, and outreach)
Meetings: Attend at least 10 board meetings annually.
Participation: Engage in events such as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, community training, or emergency responses.
Support: Help secure resources through fundraising or partnerships
