The vision of the Montana Center at MSUB College of Education is to ensure that all students are equipped to succeed. The Montana Center provides continuing professional development opportunities for educators and direct service providers. Approximately one-fifth of the US population identifies as neurodivergent. Using this statistic, it would be estimated that 25,626 people in Yellowstone County identify as neurodivergent. The unemployment rate for Americans with neurodiversity is between 20 to 40% – three times higher than the rate for people with physical disabilities and eight times higher than the non-disabled.
This project will alleviate poverty by creating upward mobility for neurodiverse individuals and their families, enabling financial stability via fulfilling employment and comprehensive support networks.
Member Duties: Increase the rate of employment and social acceptance for neurodivergent individuals by establishing a resource center in Billings, Montana! The overall goal of this project is to improve awareness and support for neurodivergence in the community. The VISTA member will conduct a community assessment to identify the need for services; leverage financial resources; compile a database for stakeholder outreach;
and develop a media plan.
