Behavior Specialist Job Description
REACH Academy Charter School is seeking a highly qualified and passionate Behavior Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in observing, assessing, and implementing interventions for scholars exhibiting emotional and behavioral challenges, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and OCD. The Behavior Specialist will be responsible for conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), designing and executing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and collaborating closely with teachers, families, and support staff to improve student behavior and promote academic success. This role is critical in supporting the school's mission to ensure every scholar achieves at high levels in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

- Expert knowledge in behavior analysis, function-based intervention planning, and the implementation of evidence-based strategies to reduce problematic behavior and encourage positive alternatives.
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and implementing data-driven behavioral supports.
- Strong understanding of assessment tools and the ability to use data to guide and refine interventions.
- Knowledgeable in research-based instructional and behavioral strategies, and skilled in applying them in educational settings.
- Proficient in the use of technology to support instruction, data collection, and communication.
- Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, evaluate interventions, and improve student outcomes through reflective practice.
- A belief in the philosophy that all students can succeed, and a commitment to doing whatever it takes to ensure their success.
- Functions as a teacher-leader, collaborator, reflective practitioner, and advocate for student learning and well-being.
- Familiarity with the goals and performance expectations of REACH Academy Charter School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support student learning by addressing behavioral challenges that may interfere with academic success.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to define, observe, and measure student behavior and implement evidence-based strategies.
- Lead and facilitate team meetings with educators and families to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Provide consultation and support around classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and ethical practices related to behavior management.
- Assist teachers and staff in the implementation of School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Offer coaching and professional development to staff on topics such as behavior reinforcement, crisis intervention, and effective classroom management.
- Promote specialized, intensive behavioral instruction for scholars at risk of academic failure, ensuring instruction is clear, accelerated, and practice-rich.
- Use ongoing data collection and analysis to monitor progress and inform intervention adjustments.
- Employ a variety of assessment strategies aligned with individual student needs and instructional goals to better understand and support student behavior.
- Encourage students to reflect on their behavior and academic work; model effective self-assessment strategies.
- Acknowledge and reinforce positive student behavior and achievements.
- Collaborate with school leaders to plan and deliver professional development focused on positive behavior support strategies.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment at all times.
- Partner with families in the development and implementation of behavior plans, and equip them with techniques to support behavior growth at home.
- Conduct peer mediation and conflict resolution sessions as needed.
- Consult regularly with school counselors, the Dean of Scholars, and classroom teachers to ensure coordinated support.
- Remain up to date with current best practices through participation in professional learning opportunities.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to colleagues by modeling exemplary practice and sharing expertise.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications
- Master's degree required, hold an Education Leadership certification preferred or a related field strongly preferred;
- Minimum of 3-5 years in administration or in a behavior team role required;
- Experience in a charter school, K-12 education, or nonprofit environment highly desirable
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Salary
This is a 10-month position on the teacher scale. Your salary step will depend on your prior years of experience and certification.
