ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund (“The Fund”) is a nonprofit organization serving the production music community. The Fund’s mission is to efficiently distribute residuals to participants and provide guidance and support to producers releasing film and television products to secondary markets.
The Residual Administration team under the direction of the CAO & Executive Counsel manages the compliance audit program on behalf of the Fund. Management includes data analysis, company and title selection, audit process management, audit report review and draft support, settlement negotiation preparation, and memorialization of each compliance audit history.
This team collaborates cross functionally across the organization with regularity.
POSITION SUMMARY
This role will be responsible for supporting senior counsel in preparation for audit settlement negotiation. The Audit Review Associate will review and provide edits to draft reports, liaise with external audit firms and audited parties on Open Items Requests, submit final reports to audited parties, and prep various memos supporting negotiation and memorializing audit histories. This team member will also be responsible for reporting collected amounts to key internal teams, as well as drafting organized updates for the Executive team.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews and provides edits for draft compliance audit reports; collaborating with senior counsel on review; acts as primary liaison on behalf of the Fund with audit firms and companies through the draft stage.
- Supports collection of outstanding residuals through audit program and supports senior counsel in preparation for settlement negotiations through drafting of negotiation prep memos, audit settlement histories (case notes), and other tasks as assigned.
- Serves as a trusted point of contact for producers, distributors, rights holders, payroll companies or their agents in relation to questions stemming from audit related issues, open items requests, catch up payments, or similar.
- Provides support to Industry Resources for purposes of resolving Participant Inquiries that may be related to prior or current audits.
- Supports senior counsel on special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Please note a writing sample is required to apply for this role which reflects understanding of IFRAC or similar method for legal analysis.
· Experience:
o 2–4 years of experience as a paralegal supporting client intake, updating case notes, memo and/or brief research and drafting; OR recent law school graduates awaiting bar results and first year lawyers with demonstrable experience in the above. Externship experience is acceptable.
· Education:
o Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, English, or similar; OR a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA approved program; OR a Juris Doctorate
· Technical & Tool Proficiency:
o Familiarity with project management platforms (e.g., Monday or similar)
o Comfortable working with Microsoft Office/SharePoint and/or Google Workspace
o Must understand IFRAC model for structuring memos
· Other Requirements:
o Ability to manage multiple priorities.
o High degree of professional integrity, discretion, and judgment.
o Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, solution-driven approach to problem-solving.
o Proven ability to apply logical reasoning and analysis.
o Ability to lift and transport light materials up to 20 pounds (e.g., file boxes)
ABILITIES/SKILLS
· Must have experience reading and interpreting dense legal documents and communicating the synthesized information in an accessible way to a variety of audiences. Additional training will be provided on relevant agreements and audit reports.
· Must be detail oriented, well-organized, and have consistent follow-through.
· Must be customer service oriented and have the ability to interact well with companies, their representatives and staff, and other rights holders with tact and diplomacy.
· Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
· Able to perform basic math.
