America’s Poison Centers maintains the National Poison Data System® (NPDS), the nation’s only near-real-time surveillance database capturing poisoning data nationwide. NPDS supports public health research, education, outreach, emergency response, and the identification and monitoring of emerging threats.

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive professional to contribute to NPDS data licensing initiatives and partnerships. The Associate of National Data Services reports to the Director of National Data Services and contributes to data management and governance, and the fulfillment of contractual deliverables. This position will foster the use of NPDS data and support the national public health mission by partnering with Poison Centers, government agencies, industry, non-governmental organizations, and academic researchers.

This position is ideal for a recent college graduate with a bachelor’s degree and relevant academic or professional experience who is interested in building a career in national public health data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the National Data Services team to triage, assess, and fulfill data licensing inquiries, consulting with clinical subject matter experts as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of deliverables for America’s Poison Centers’ data partnerships, including data management, quality assurance, outreach, and support for training activities.
  • Conduct NPDS and Poison Center literature review, and update and maintain data-related website content.
  • Schedule and support committee and department meetings, including attendance, preparation, and follow-up.
  • Provide administrative and operational support, including project tracking, document management, and meeting minutes.
  • Perform other operational and mission-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is passionate about leveraging data, particularly clinical and poisoning data, to support and advance public health.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field required. Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates without a bachelor’s degree may be considered with five (5) years of highly relevant professional experience.
  • Relevant academic, internship, research, volunteer, or professional experience.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with a positive, team-oriented approach and a willingness to learn in a collaborative environment.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and resourceful, with the ability to take initiative and adapt in a dynamic workplace.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro to manage documents containing Protected Health Information is preferred but not required.
