Job Summary
The Associate Director is a strategic fundraiser responsible for managing a major‑gift development program with an annual resource development activity of at least $1million. The role oversees a portfolio of 75‑150 major‑gift prospects, performs 20‑25 solicitations per year, and generates an average of $1million in gifts annually. The director works closely with senior management to secure private and public sector support, develops comprehensive plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and ensures donor recognition and stewardship programs are executed effectively.
Responsibilities
- Partner with senior management to facilitate maximum private and public sector support for the University.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of 75‑150 major‑gift prospects.
- Conduct 100‑200 face‑to‑face prospect or donor meetings annually for discovery, cultivation, and solicitation.
- Make 20‑25 major‑gift solicitations per year and achieve the associated funding goals.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major‑gift prospects and donors.
- Generate donor/prospect solicitation materials and correspondence.
- Ensure appropriate donor recognition, acknowledgement, and stewardship programs are in place.
- Applicants may mentor junior development staff but typically do not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- University degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum five (5) years of related experience in fundraising, alumni relations, advancement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including those in conflict with one’s own.
- Commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree or undergraduate degree in commerce, marketing, or economics.
- Proven experience in major‑gift fundraising and strategy development.
- Thorough knowledge of the university environment and academic structure.
- Experience with a centralized fundraising system.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, strategic thinking, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Strong conceptual abilities with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Effective verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Computer experience required; proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
