Overview
Join the accounting team at Orange County Community Housing Corporation (OCCHC) as an Associate Accountant and help support the accounting functions behind our mission of providing affordable housing across Orange County. OCCHC manages a portfolio of 39 properties and 231 affordable housing units, and our accounting team plays a key role in keeping that work financially sound and compliant. This is a great opportunity for a recent accounting or finance graduate looking to build hands-on experience in nonprofit and affordable housing accounting, working closely with senior staff to learn our processes while contributing to accurate financial recordkeeping.
Duties
- Assist with processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoices and payments
- Perform basic bank and general ledger reconciliations under the guidance of senior staff
- Help prepare journal entries and support month-end close activities
- Enter and code financial transactions accurately in AppFolio, our property management accounting system
- Assist with organizing and maintaining financial records and documentation for audits and compliance reviews
- Support basic Excel-based data analysis and reporting
- Help maintain recurring housing authority deposit reports and rent roll schedules across our property portfolio
- Help track compliance-related deadlines and documentation (exposure to LIHTC or nonprofit/affordable housing compliance a plus, not required)
- Respond to routine questions from vendors, tenants, or staff regarding invoices and payments
- Take on additional accounting support tasks and special projects as assigned
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Basic understanding of accounting principles (debits/credits, general ledger, accrual basis)
- Comfortable working in Excel; familiarity with property management or accounting software (e.g., AppFolio, QuickBooks) a plus but not required
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and eagerness to learn
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- No prior professional accounting experience required — this role is designed as a learning opportunity with mentorship from senior staff
Pay: $61,319.88 – $73,847.59 per year
