Job Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of the Sixteen Mile Older Adult Centre including daily interaction with seniors, part‑time staff, volunteers and the general public.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of registered and drop‑in programming, special events and fundraisers for older adults.
  • Facilitate or attend member board meetings and Annual General Meetings.
  • Assist in the screening, supervision, orientation and training of volunteers.
  • Provide administrative and programming support.
  • Assist with program registration and input information using Xplore Recreation.
  • Maintain membership and accurate program records and statistics.
  • Grow the membership and volunteer base through outreach and community engagement.
  • Assist Recreation Coordinator with tracking or repairs, purchasing supplies and inventory.
  • Daily cash handling and tracking.
  • Assist in the production of the semi‑annual Seniors’ Centres Newsletter.
  • Adhere to Corporate Policies and Procedures and attend required staff training and scheduled meetings.
  • Accept variable hours as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a post‑secondary degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure or a related field, along with a minimum of two years of frontline experience delivering recreation programs in a community setting, preferably with older adults. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

This role requires strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with participants, volunteers, community partners, and internal staff. Experience supporting the growth of a new or expanding customer base through outreach, engagement, and promotion is an asset.

The ideal candidate will have experience assisting with the planning and delivery of programs and special events, as well as contributing to program development and continuous improvement. Experience supporting and coordinating volunteers—including recruitment, scheduling, training support, and the development of clear systems and processes to support volunteer engagement—is highly desirable.

Strong administrative skills and computer proficiency are essential, particularly with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, for tasks including registration, data tracking, record keeping, correspondence, and reporting. Knowledge of the physical abilities and needs of the older adult population, along with familiarity with community resources and services, is considered an asset.

Access to a personal vehicle is required. Current Standard First Aid, CPR “C,” and AED responder certification are mandatory.
