Summary

The Assistant Director of Education (AD) oversees the implementation of a comprehensive child development program at the Blind Children’s Center . The AD supports the management team in setting educational goals, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements, and enhancing program effectiveness. Key responsibilities include coaching staff, conducting CLASS training and assessments, supervising Early Head Start Parent Educators, and managing disability and mental health services.

Responsibilities

Oversee child development program at Blind Children’s Center , ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Supervise Disabilities & Mental Health Coordinator, Education Coordinator, and Parent Educators.
Develop and monitor policies for child development, education, disabilities, and mental health services in line with regulatory standards.
Assess and improve learning environments, including the purchase of instructional materials and curriculum assessments.
Evaluate teaching effectiveness and ensure staff meet training and certification requirements.
Provide professional development for teachers and support staff, including coaching and feedback.
Facilitate parental engagement and act as a liaison between teachers and parents as needed.
Ensure student health, safety, and effective teaching strategies are in place.
Stay current on best practices through professional development and affiliations.
Maintain CLASS certification and conduct required assessments.
Monitor program data and implement improvements based on ongoing assessments.
Collaborate with Program Director to ensure regulatory compliance and liaise with licensing agencies.
Develop professional development plans based on teacher needs and implement Practice-Based Coaching through Los Angeles County Office of Education.
Prepare reports on program activities, school readiness goals, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to evaluate integrated services and ensure quality standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (Master’s preferred) and experience teaching preschool-age children.
California Child Development Program Director Permit or equivalent, or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
5 years of experience in preschool programs, with supervisory and adult training experience.
2 years of experience in federal/state-funded early childhood programs (e.g., Head Start, Early Head Start, CA State Preschool).
Experience in early intervention and services for children with disabilities, along with familiarity with curricula such as Creative Curriculum and Desired Results Developmental Profile.
Experience with Environmental Rating Scales, Creative Curriculum, Parents as Teachers curricula, Desired Results Developmental Profile, Ages and Stages Questionnaires, Early Learning Outcomes Framework, and/or HOVRS.
Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and Practice-Based Coaching must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Strong data analysis skills, ability to communicate effectively, and knowledge of child development theories and early education principles.
Preferred qualifications: Experience with ChildPlus database, Practice-Based Coaching, adult learning theory, and fluency in Spanish.

Other Requirements:

Must possess and maintain criminal background clearance.
Must possess and maintain a valid Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (or higher level) and Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification.
Must meet immunization requirements including pertussis, measles, and flu, Covid-19 vaccination, clear health exam, and proof of TB clearance.
Valid California driver’s license and availability of private transportation, as this position requires travel for training, meetings and other events.
