Another Source’s client, California State University, San Marcos, is recruiting an Assistant Director, Black Student Center to join their team on-site in San Marcos, CA.
The Black Student Center at California State University San Marcos celebrates the dignity, diversity, and cultural heritage of students of African descent. About the Role:
The Assistant Director will play a key role in fostering student success and engagement, with a particular focus on supporting Black students. Reporting to the Director for Student Inclusion & Engagement, this position is responsible for developing and overseeing student programs, services, and initiatives that promote academic success, leadership development, and community engagement.
What you will be doing:
Program Development & Student Success (50%):
Design and implement programs that support Black student retention, academic success, and professional growth.
Lead key initiatives such as the Black Student Retreat, Ujamaa Achievement Program, and Black Excellence Month.
Provide mentorship, advocacy, and direct student support.
Encourage student participation in leadership development programs.
Administration & Operations (35%):
Oversee daily operations of the Black Student Center.
Manage budgets and compliance.
Recruit, train, and mentor student employees and volunteers.
Organize fundraising efforts.
University & Community Partnerships (15%):
Develop and sustain collaborations with campus partners.
Serve as a university representative at events focused on equity and inclusion.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least three (3) years of professional experience in student services.
Experience advising students on academic, career, and personal success.
Proven ability to design, implement, and assess student programs.
Strong awareness of cultural diversity and ability to foster inclusive programs.
Experience collecting and analyzing student data.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and develop strategic solutions.
Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student information systems.
Experience developing program budgets.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Experience working with Black-identified students is preferred.
