Assistant Community Development Director Jobs in Marshall, Michigan, USA at Calhoun County
Under the direction of the Community Development Director, the Assistant Community Development Director oversees the operations and activities of the Community Development Office which includes Planning and Economic Development, Parks, Solid Waste/Recycling, GIS, Senior Services, and Veterans Affairs. This position is responsible for program administration,strategic planning, and departmentalleadership.

Responsibilities:
Collaborates with the Director to establish and prioritize departmental goals and strategies.
Assists the Director in developing and evaluating internal policies and operating procedures and develops staff organization to carry out departmental operations.
Develops, strategizes, and promotes community-based programs and services througheducation, public outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
Serves as a representative to federal, state, and local agencies ensuringcollaborationand compliance of programs.
Providesleadershipand support to boards, commissions, and committees.
Supervises and monitors work activities as needed, including hiring, scheduling, directing work assignments, coaching, maintenance activities, training, development, and discipline.
Identifies grant opportunities to support existing and planned activities as well as leads the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.
Assists the Director in preparing and managing the budget for various divisions, analyzing funding opportunities, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
Acts on behalf of the Community Development Director in their absence.
Conducts research to inform policy, evaluate programs, and address community needs effectively.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required or combination ofeducationand experience commensurate with the requirements of this position.
Four to six years of progressively more responsible experience in program management, project budgeting, and general financial management; supervisory experience preferred.

Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude,strong work ethic, and to handle matters with others in a courteous,respectful, responsive, and effective manner.
Ability to solve problems in an effective manner and must have strong organizational, planning, andproject managementskills.
Proficient computer skills necessary to effectively utilize spreadsheets, databases, word processing, computerized accounting software and create presentations.
Organization and time management skills.
Oral, written, and interpersonal skills including presentation skills.
Ability to travel between County buildings and attend off-site meetings as needed, with reliable transportation.
Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies with a commitment to equity andinclusion.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position provides direct supervision including hiring, discipline, training/development, and termination as applicable. Specific supervisory assignments will be determined upon hire.
