Position Overview
IBA seeks a strategic, results-oriented Arts Program Director to lead and grow our arts and cultural programming portfolio. This is not primarily an artistic or creative role. We are seeking a mature, business-minded leader with demonstrated experience in program operations, budget management, revenue generation, partnership development, team leadership, and performance management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the long-term sustainability, growth, and operational excellence of IBA’s arts initiatives while advancing the organization’s mission and community impact goals.
This position requires a professional who can think strategically, execute operationally, manage financial performance, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership and Program Management
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual business and operating plan for IBA’s Arts Program.
- Establish measurable goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and success metrics to assess program effectiveness and community impact.
- Direct all aspects of year-round arts and cultural programming, including Festival Betances, Tito Puente Latin Music Series, and other signature initiatives.
- Identify growth opportunities that increase participation, financial sustainability, visibility, and organizational impact.
- Ensure programs are delivered efficiently, effectively, and in alignment with organizational priorities.
Financial Management and Revenue Growth
- Develop, manage, and monitor program budgets exceeding established financial targets and accountability standards.
- Implement strategies to increase earned revenue through ticket sales, sponsorships, rentals, partnerships, and other income-generating opportunities.
- Monitor financial performance and develop corrective action plans when necessary.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to establish annual financial goals and sustainability strategies.
- Support fundraising initiatives, grant development, reporting, and donor cultivation activities.
Partnership Development and External Relations
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with corporations, foundations, government agencies, educational institutions, and community organizations.
- Identify partnership opportunities that enhance program quality, expand reach, and strengthen financial sustainability.
- Represent IBA professionally with community leaders, funding organizations, public officials, and other stakeholders.
- Serve as a visible ambassador for the Arts Program and the organization.
Operations, Compliance, and Performance Management
- Ensure compliance with all contractual, legal, financial, and operational requirements.
- Oversee vendor and contractor relationships, including artist agreements and service contracts.
- Implement systems and processes that improve efficiency, accountability, and program performance.
- Maintain accurate reporting related to participation, outcomes, finances, partnerships, and grant requirements.
- Prepare reports and presentations for executive leadership, funders, and the Board of Directors.
Team Leadership
- Provide leadership, coaching, supervision, and performance management to Arts Program staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear expectations and ensure staff performance aligns with organizational goals.
- Promote professional development and succession planning within the department.
Preferred QualificationsRequired Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Arts Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience managing complex programs, departments, or community initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets, financial planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Proven success in revenue generation, fundraising support, sponsorship development, or business development.
- Experience supervising and developing staff.
- Strong project management and operational leadership skills.
- Experience utilizing data, performance metrics, and outcome measurement to drive decision-making.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit, cultural, community development, education, or mission-driven organizations.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Experience managing grants and compliance reporting.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, data management systems, and reporting tools.
