Description
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist to join a mission-driven nonprofit organization in San Francisco, CA. This is a 100% onsite, contract-to-hire position for the right fit, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to meaningful work while showcasing your expertise in accounts payable.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced nonprofit environment and bring a deep understanding of AP processes. Non-profit experience and proficiency with MIP (formerly Sage MIP Fund Accounting) software are strongly preferred, as these skills will directly contribute to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full-cycle accounts payable process, including invoice entry, coding, verification, and payment processing in alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
Reconcile vendor accounts, resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate vendor records.
Assist in month-end closing tasks, such as accruals and AP reporting.
Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to resolve payment or process issues in a timely and professional manner.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies and nonprofit-specific financial reporting standards.
Provide support for audits by preparing necessary schedules and documentation, particularly those specific to nonprofit entities.
Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years of full-cycle accounts payable experience, preferably within a nonprofit environment.
Software Skills: Familiarity with MIP Fund Accounting Software is strongly preferred. Proficiency in other ERP or accounting systems is beneficial.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables) are a plus.
Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred but not required with relevant work experience.
Soft Skills: Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with nonprofit financial regulations and reporting standards is highly desirable.
