STATUS: Part-Time, 31 hours per week. Saturday & Sunday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break Monday & Friday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break
Job Summary
Responsible for providing direct care and record keeping for shelter animals. Assist the Shelter Operations Director by providing for various healthcare needs, administration of medications, and general care of animals. Conduct admission exams, including recording weights, vaccinations, parasite control and general health of animals upon arrival to the shelter. Responsible for coordinating scheduled interviews with owners requesting animal surrender appointments, including initial behavior screenings, detailed history, and general physical needs of the animal. Assist with determining and communicating organization capacity to intake owned animal surrenders. Assist with maintaining facility cleanliness and upkeep and assisting with or performing duties of the Animal Care Specialists as needed. Assist other Animal Care Coordinators as needed. The Animal Care & Intake Coordinator will work as part of a team of staff and volunteers.
Responsibilities
Treat all animals both on and off the job humanely. You are a representative of the BMHS even when you are not at work.
Responsible for performing intake exams and providing treatment, as necessary.
Responsible for entering exam information into a computer-based record management system.
Make daily inspection of shelter to ensure work is accomplished, animal needs are met, and facility is sanitary.
Monitor the general health of shelter animals and ensure proper medical care.
Assist with record keeping and statistics that include but are not limited to animal population, adoption, euthanasia, and spaying/neutering.
Assist the SOD or Medical Director if requested in making the difficult decisions regarding euthanasia.
Perform and/or assist with the timely, safe and sacred responsibility of performing euthanasia’s as needed.
Follow vaccination, medication, microchipping, FeLV/ FIV testing, and all other medical protocols.
Responsible for the identification banding of cats upon intake and ensure removal following microchipping.
Responsible for monitoring of shelter animal’s status by performing the Animal Inventory daily.
Responsible for monitoring and communicating any shelter animal health issues.
Responsible for ensuring that every shelter animal is fed and watered at the close of each day.
Assist with training and onboarding new Animal Care team members and Animal Care volunteers by monitoring safety, policy and procedure compliance.
Assist as needed with walk-throughs at the end of an Animal Care Specialists shift to ensure correct completion of duties assigned.
Responsible for feeding, watering, and spot cleaning kennels and runs throughout the day.
Responsible for ensuring the timely removal of food from pets scheduled for surgery the following day.
Responsible for monitoring food supplies for freshness and communicating the need for re-stocking of food supplies and other animal care materials as needed.
Responsible for coordinating scheduled interviews with owners requesting animal surrender appointments, including initial behavior screenings, detailed history, and general physical needs of the animal.
Assist with determining and communicating organization capacity to intake owned animal surrenders.
Assist the Enrichment Coordinator with creating, building, and distributing enrichment supplies to both cats and dogs.
Assist the Enrichment Coordinator, when needed, with facilitating and implementing dog Play Groups.
Assist the Foster Coordinator, when needed, with identifying animals in need of foster care, preparing an animal to go into foster care, and providing support to foster families.
Assist the Transfer Coordinator when needed.
Become a WSP Volunteer to receive clearance to train dog handlers at WSP.
Assist with transportation of program supplies and animals to and from WSP when needed.
Requirements
Must be detailed oriented, accurate and dependable.
Able to juggle demands, prioritize thoughtfully, and follow tasks through to timely completion.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), good computer skills to include word processing, 10 key calculator, data programs, and the ability to use a digital camera.
Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and have tactful, mature, and sincere attitude.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficient in using phone systems and computerized record-keeping systems.

Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
