SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Coordinator, Advocacy supports major portions of ASTA’s work to advocate for the travel agency community at all levels of government, within the travel industry and before the traveling public. This position entails both administrative and substantive work in support of ASTA’s Advocacy Department.

Within the Advocacy Department, the Coordinator will work closely with departmental staff to support ASTA initiatives to advance the legislative, regulatory, grassroots, and political agenda of the travel agency industry. This includes day-to-day oversight of fundraising, disbursements, and compliance related to the Society’s political action committee (ASTAPAC), development and execution of ASTA’s federal and state lobbying campaigns, and annual Legislative Day fly-in.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Generally supports the Advocacy Department in all matters related to ASTA’s federal and state advocacy agenda;

Assists in the drafting of member communications on legislative and regulatory issues

Day-to-day management of federal and state grassroots advocacy campaigns

Assists in planning for and execution of ASTA’s annual Legislative Day

Maintains up-to-date records of ASTAPAC’s fundraising and disbursements

Acts as a liaison to the Accounting Department to ensure that ASTAPAC maintains complete and accurate records and that disbursements are processed in a timely manner

Assists in the drafting and disseminating of ASTAPAC member solicitations

Prepares federal disclosure filings relating to lobbying activities and political fundraising

Assists the department in the organization and preparation for periodic meetings with the department’s member oversight committee, the Government & Political Affairs Committee.

 

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field. Key qualifications include:

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Excellent organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, professional work

Ability to meet deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced environment

Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)

Experience in political campaigns, grassroots advocacy, the travel industry, or nonprofit associations is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Location: Alexandria, VA (Hybrid schedule available)

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $55,000, based on experience and qualifications. ASTA offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
