  • Office environment: Hybrid negotiable. Monday is a compulsory in-office day at the Cape Town office
  • Salary: Remuneration will be within Inyathelo’s approved salary band and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Job Overview

Inyathelo is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accounts Coordinator to support the organisation’s financial administration processes.

The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day financial administration, maintain accurate records, support reconciliations and reporting processes, assist in budget control and reporting, and help ensure that financial systems and documentation including leave liability are well recorded and managed.

The Accounts Coordinator will report to the Finance Director on the areas of administrative accounting and the smooth running of the finance unit.

This role is best suited to someone who enjoys hands-on administrative finance work and is comfortable working in a support role within a small nonprofit team.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Process and record financial transactions accurately and timeously, maintaining complete and reliable financial records
  • Capture financial data into accounting systems and spreadsheets, supporting the overall bookkeeping and financial administration function
  • Responsible for accounts payable and receivable, including invoice verification against purchase orders and supporting documentation
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices, payments, and discrepancies, and liaise with suppliers, service providers, and staff to resolve queries
  • Prepare EFTs, payment documentation, and batch payments for authorisation, and support payment processing
  • Perform bank, cashbook, and other account reconciliations, including monthly reconciliation of cash to general ledger accounts
  • Download and maintain bank statements and support banking administration processes where required
  • Maintain petty cash, including processing, recording, and reconciliation of petty cash transactions
  • Maintain orderly, accurate, and up-to-date financial records, including supplier, creditor, debtor, SARS and donor documentation
  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including expenditure reports, reconciliations, and schedules
  • Assist with budget monitoring, expenditure tracking, and variance analysis, escalating significant discrepancies where necessary
  • Assist in the preparation of annual and project budgets, as well as periodic budget reviews and ad hoc financial reports
  • Support donor, project, and grant financial administration, including maintaining donor contracts and related records
  • Assist the Finance Director with financial reporting, queries, and preparation of reports for management, auditors, and donors
  • Support audit processes, including preparation and coordination of documentation for monthly allocations and annual external audits
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, SARS legislation, procedures, and controls
  • Liaise with outsourced payroll, accounting, and taxation service providers, and support payroll inputs and related recordkeeping
  • Assist with procurement processes, including supplier documentation and purchase order support
  • Perform general administrative and coordination tasks related to the finance function
  • Provide additional finance duties as required

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Finance, Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field
  • At least 3-5 years’ working experience in finance administration or bookkeeping, preferably in a NPO environment
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Experience in financial invoicing, reconciliation and controls
  • Experience with bookkeeping in the nonprofit sector is highly advantageous
  • Experience using accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, or similar)
  • Strong customer service ethos and proactive approach to service provision
  • Highly computer literate with solid skills in Microsoft Suite including MS Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Understanding of internal controls and financial compliance
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in managing sensitive and confidential financial information with absolute discretion
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism
  • South African citizen or valid work permit
