Our Denver Non-Profit client is looking for an Accounting Manager who can grow to a Chief Administrative Officer in a year or two.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading and managing all day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This includes overseeing accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and cash management. The role ensures compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and supports accurate and timely financial reporting. The Accounting Manager also plays a key role in budget development, grant tracking, audit preparation, and team supervision.
RESPONSIBILITES
Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
Manage general ledger activity and ensure accurate month-end close processes.
Prepare timely financial statements and reports in compliance with GAAP.
Assist in the development of annual budgets and monitor financial performance.
Manage grant-related financial activities, including tracking restricted funds and preparing reports.
Serve as the primary liaison during audits; coordinate with external auditors and prepare necessary documentation.
Supervise accounting staff (AP/AR) and provide training, support, and performance evaluations.
Support onboarding of new employees related to payroll and financial procedures.
Administer 403(b) retirement plan and ensure compliance with reporting and contribution requirements.
File sales tax returns and ensure adherence to applicable tax regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Experience with grant management and compliance; knowledge of Uniform Guidance and SEFA is a plus.
Proficiency in accounting systems (Sage Intacct preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
