We are looking for an Accounting Manager to join a non-profit organization in New York, New York on a Contract basis. This role will support core accounting operations during a busy reporting period, with a strong focus on audit preparation, reconciliations, and financial accuracy across multiple sources of data. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience managing general ledger activity, coordinating audit support, and maintaining organized balance sheet schedules in a complex environment.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare audit support materials by organizing selections, schedules, and requested documentation for external auditors.
• Assist with Form 990 preparation by compiling financial data and supporting schedules needed for filing.
• Reconcile revenue activity across fundraising, cash, and accounting records to ensure completeness and consistency.
• Review monthly submissions from country offices and resolve discrepancies in reported financial information.
• Manage intercompany accounting transactions and maintain accurate balances between related entities.
• Update and maintain balance sheet schedules, including roll-forwards and fixed asset support.
• Support month-end close activities through journal entries, account analysis, and general ledger review.
• Experience serving in an accounting leadership role, preferably as an Accounting Manager or in a similar capacity.
• Strong background in month-end close, general ledger maintenance, and preparation of journal entries.
• Demonstrated experience supporting financial statement audits and responding to auditor requests.
• Proven ability to perform detailed account reconciliations across multiple financial systems.
• Familiarity with nonprofit accounting practices, including exposure to Form 990 preparation.
• Working knowledge of intercompany accounting and balance sheet schedule management.
• Experience using Abila MIP or a comparable accounting platform.
