Accounting Associate – Part-Time Jobs in Remote at Species360
Species360 is a unique blend of a software company, a non-profit organization, and a global wildlife and plant care and conservation leader. We are the predominant non-profit organization serving zoos, aquariums, and botanical gardens with animal and plant management needs through our Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) and Hortis software.
Our members include diverse institutions worldwide that use our software to record data on wildlife and plants. This critical data enables them to provide world-class care for their animals and enables Species360 to develop software and scientific research that supports global conservation.
This role requires a genuine passion for species conservation, animal care, and the health of the natural world. The ideal candidate will channel their enthusiasm for these critical issues into developing products that align with the Species360 mission and inspire engagement across the global conservation community.
OUR OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Associate to partner with Finance Team members to maintain timely and accurate financial records including accounts payable and receivable, and daily financial entries and reconciliations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate has 2 or more years of full-time professional experience as an Accounting Associate, preferably with non-profit experience.
Species360 is a small organization of 35 US employees (multi-state) and 13 international team members. Species360 is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and embraces a fully remote US workforce strategy.
This is a fully remote 20-hour per-week position.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform the day-to-day processing of accounts payable transactions in an effective, timely, and accurate manner
Review vendor invoices, enter vendor invoices into QuickBooks and post them to general ledger
Prepare Wire, ACH, Bill Pay payment transactions in online systems for approval on a weekly basis
Maintain on-line storage of vendor invoice and payment documentation
Reconcile vendor account discrepancies
Perform the day-to-day processing of accounts receivable transactions in an effective, timely and accurate manner
Create, enter, and distribute invoices for Species360 subscription products and related services
Enter customer invoice transactions in QuickBooks and Xero accounting software and post them to general ledger
Monitor financial accounts for payment activities (e.g., check lockbox, wire, ACH, and credit card receipts) and process payment transactions daily
Complete material requests and prepare assigned schedules for the annual financial audit
Produce and maintain appropriate documentation of processes and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s Degree and/or technical certifications with major course work in accounting or a related field, preferred
Two or more years of accounting-related work experience
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, QuickBooks, Xero, and document scanning tools
Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy
Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports
Detail-oriented, organized and effective time management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship-building and customer service skills
Ability to solve problems as well as plan, prioritize, multi-task and complete work assignments within deadlines
You are a fast learner, able to work independently, show initiative, and willing to seek out help where needed
Understand confidential nature of organization information and maintain confidence

COMPENSATION
The compensation range for this non-exempt position is $24.00 – $27.00 per hour based on experience.
OUR US BENEFITS
We offer generous time off benefits to full-time and part-time employees, combining holidays and vacation into one Paid Time Off benefit for maximum employee flexibility. You start accruing PTO at 25 days per year and we provide 10 paid sick days per year plus 8 weeks of paid parenting leave – all prorated based on a 20-hour week.
Part-time employees are also provided with life, short term and long term disability insurance. You can contribute to our 401(k) plan immediately at hire, which includes a generous 3% employer contribution to all employees. We provide a $50 monthly technology stipend along with the required technology and computers.
