The Accounting Assistant supports our accounting department executing daily financial tasks. The ideal candidate has a basic understanding of accounting principles, is detail oriented, possesses strong organizational skills, and leads with proficiency in financial software. The role reports to the CFO and processes transactions, reconciliation of accounts and assisting with reporting to ensure accurate financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

The nature of this position is confidential and requires the ability to maintain confidential information.

Processes accounts payable and receivable transactions.

Performs accurate data entry.

Processes outgoing mail to include outgoing checks.

Reviews aging reports and sends invoices to constituents.

Handles administrative tasks, such as filing, organizing records, and responds to inquiries.

Assists with grant reimbursements.

Supports month-end and year-end closing processes.

Maintains accurate financial records and documentation.

Collaborates with other departments to ensure compliance with financial policies.

Serves as a backup for payroll processing.

May run accounting errands.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Equivalency reviewed.

1-2 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role preferred.

Experience in a non-profit accounting environment (preferred).

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., FundEz, Matchforce).

Proficient at Excel and has a good understanding of all Microsoft Office programs.

Excellent attention to detail.

Ability to multi-task and sustain some deadline pressure.

Strong communication and organizational skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to use time effectively, work independently, focus on details, and routinely adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.

Projects a professional image and can gain the confidence of everyone inside and outside of the organization while executing the role.

Discretion to handle confidential information.

May be asked to participate in work for agency events, fundraising and program activities supporting the mission of the agency.

Mnimal physical requirements to include walking, standing, occasional lifting, sitting at workstation and supporting community activities and events.

Candidates must pass a thorough background screening to include fingerprinting, MVD, Reference Check, etc., and have the ability to fulfill I-9 requirements.
