Position Overview
The Academics Department Manager is responsible for the successful implementation and oversight of academic support programs, including tutoring and homework assistance. This role will focus on ensuring that students receive the educational support necessary to improve academic performance and develop essential learning skills. The Academics Department Manager will work closely with the Director of Student Programs to coordinate and execute tutoring services while managing volunteers and ensuring program quality.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the implementation of all academic support programs, including tutoring and homework assistance.
Recruit, train, and manage volunteer tutors to ensure high-quality academic support for students.
Develop and maintain schedules for tutoring sessions, ensuring adequate coverage for all subjects and student needs.
Monitor student progress and collect feedback to assess program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.
Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and tutors to ensure alignment on academic goals.
Collaborate with the Director of Student Programs to refine and improve academic programming based on student needs.
Ensure compliance with all program guidelines and best practices for student support.
Maintain accurate records of student participation, tutor assignments, and program outcomes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience in tutoring, academic program coordination, or student support services.
Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working with students, educators, and volunteers.
Ability to assess student progress and provide recommendations for academic improvement.
Commitment to educational equity and supporting students from underserved communities.
Experience in a nonprofit or community-based education program is preferred.
Compensation & Future Growth
This position is currently unpaid, as the program is in its early stages. However, once Our Way Home secures sustainable funding and the program is fully operational, this role will transition into a paid hourly position at $30 per hour.
