ROLE PURPOSE
This position will perform housekeeping and laundry duties to ensure sanitation and orderliness of the Whitehorse Emergency Shelter, in a manner that respects resident privacy and dignity.
STATUS
Unionized. This position is open to all genders.
HOURS (UP TO 40 HOURS PER WEEK)
Tuesday to Saturday, 1900-0730 and/or 0700-1930
This is a temporary position. Candidate must be available to work flexible shift as required by the program.
Key Accountabilities
Performs facility cleaning to established schedules and standards of cleanliness, tidiness, safety, and hygiene
Performs resident, shelter users and facility laundry according to established practices
Maintains laundry records, such as, number of loads, poundage, and supplies used
Cleans a variety of equipment and surfaces in residents’ rooms and common areas
Cleans and maintains shelter matts, sleeping cots/beds and rooms according to established standards
Attends in-services meetings of the transdisciplinary team
Be able to lift 5-75lbs
Exposure to blood, body fluids, hazardous materials (chemicals, acids, latex products, and possible second-hand smoke), bedbugs and/or other pests
Experience And Skills
A relevant degree, diploma or certificate, or combination of education and experience
At least one year of related/transferable experience
Ability to manage time efficiently, high level of accuracy, and attention to detail
Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with team members, clients, partners, and stakeholders
Strong communication skills (listening, verbal and written)
Requirements
Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
Ability to successfully complete an Enhanced Security Clearance
Ability to successfully complete a TB Screening
Ability to successfully pass a reference check
Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
An understanding of providing service to people with different learningabilities
Demonstrated an ability to deal with potentialviolence
Important:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
